Mr Charles Creak of The Entertainer, one of the UK's largest independent toy retailers, approached Harry Taylor to solve a heating problem they were having in their main distribution centre in Amersham. The building is 6,000 sqm and 14.8m high and already had a warm air system installed, designed as a frost protection system for the sprinkler system. This system consisted of 2 Powrmatic 150 kW cabinet heaters. Mr Creak reported that the heaters were performing poorly because the heat being produced was being absorbed by the building and the racking within.
The Company needed to heat a specific building area where their staff were packing items for distribution. The area requiring heat covered 40m x 20m of floor space and was full height. Another limiting factor was that the gas supply to the building allowed no expansion of the gas systems.
Our solution:
Harry Taylor consulted with the Ambirad design department. They recommend a "herringbone" radiant system using Ambirad Vision 40LH heaters (listed on the Enhanced Capital Allowance scheme) positioned above the packing area. We decommissioned one of the cabinet heaters and used the existing gas supply for that heater to supply the new Ambirad Vision 40LH radiant heaters.
The Entertainer has been delighted with the system's performance and has also reported that it has the added benefit of providing enough heat to do a better frost protection job than the cabinet heater it replaced. Harry Taylor maintain the system under a service contract, which allows for an annual service visit.
Following this installation, we were commissioned to heat a second area within The Entertainers Amersham distribution centre. This time we installed four Ambirad VS20 heaters.
